Everything you want to know about plants in water

General
Facts about Hydroponics

Planting in water is also called hydroponics. They are easy to maintain and...
therefore easy to care for. When you see that the water is almost empty, you can easily administer it again.

Fortunately, the desire for perfection has disappeared because plants continue to grow and develop in the water, becoming personal botanical items in your home. Items that belong to you and your interior. Just what you like!

In tropical countries, but also increasingly in non-tropical countries, cuttings are placed in water to root. But you can also put plants in water because it is simply very beautiful. The beauty of the plant is not only in the leaves that grow on the plants, but it is also in the soil. The roots are beautiful to see and they also continue to grow in the water, so you are really involved in the growth process of the plant. Fascinating!

Placement
Where is the best place to place a Hydroponics concept?

Hydroponics concepts are perfect for bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms and areas that receive less light. She likes partial shade or a bright place without direct sunlight. Hydroponic plants also shape themselves according to the conditions and can stand for a long time.

Plants in water are easy to maintain, so they are recommended even if you don't have green fingers.

The temperature where Hydroponics concepts feel comfortable is between 16 and 25°C. They like stability, it is important that they are not moved from a light to a dark location.

Does your plant have yellow leaves? Then remove it. The development of new leaves is always a sign that she is having a good time.

Watering
What is the best way to water plants in water?

1) Only put the roots in the water and always use lukewarm water.

2) Never flood the plant itself, not even part of the stem, just the roots.

3) Also leave the upper part of the roots free of water so that they can breathe.

4) The roots absorb water as needed, so they regulate it themselves.

5) Never leave the plants without water, you can simply top it up.

6) Plants shape themselves according to the conditions and can survive for a long time with the right care.

7) A bright location is very important, not in full sun, indirect light is best.

Which water is best to use for Hydroponics?

If you use rainwater you will have less trouble with a limescale edge on the glass, and the water is also a bit softer for the plant compared to tap water.

About every month, rinse the roots and add fresh water to the glass. If the water is not dirty, you can also leave it longer.

If the water becomes cloudy, the glass can be rinsed and cleaned.

Make sure the glass remains clean and nice and clear so you can enjoy the plants even more.

POWER SUPPLY
Do plants in water also require nutrition?

It is not necessary to give the plants that are in water extra nutrition, the plant does not grow that quickly in water. The roots of the Clusia rosea Princess can purify the water very well.

If leaves become a bit more yellow or you still want to feed plants, add 1 or 2 drops of food to the water and mix it with the water.

Change all the water the next day so that the plant has been able to absorb some nutrition, but does not stand in water with too much nutrition for too long. That can damage the roots. Algae can also enter the water.

Carrots
Are new roots formed in the water?

The production of new roots differs per plant species, one species produces new roots within a week, the other species only after a number of weeks.

There may be some root rot in the beginning, but that is because the plant still has to adapt to the new environment. Ultimately, the plant develops roots that have adapted to the water, so-called water roots.

In a Clusia rosea Princess, the new roots are often white in color. So you really see a plant developing, which always gives a beautiful picture.

Repot
Do I also need to repot my water-based plant?

Hydroponic plants do not grow very fast, but if a plant becomes too big for the glass you can easily repot it.

How do you tell that a plant is too big for the glass? If the plant is pushed up and protrudes above the glass or if there are too many roots at the bottom of the glass.

You probably still have a beautiful glass vase somewhere and otherwise we also have different types and sizes for sale in our Concept Store.

A plant in water does not have to be moved to a larger glass vase every year. If you are going to repot, the best time to do so is in the spring. The plant can recover more quickly after repotting because the growth period starts in the spring.

Origin
Where does the idea for Hydroponics concepts come from?

Based on our passion for plants, we started experimenting years ago to make the roots of plants more visible. Because the beauty of plants is not only in the crop you see, but special properties of plants are also hidden in the soil.

The roots of plants ensure the absorption of nutrients for the plant and break down harmful substances that the plant has absorbed from the air through its leaves. The roots of plants have an important function for people. We wanted to show that!

We allowed plants to root in water in various places (kitchen, living room, office, bathroom) and then continued developing beautiful Hydroponics concepts that you can enjoy for a long time in your living environment.

As growers through and through, we create unique concepts that bring people and nature closer together. Especially now that the desire for nature and living greenery is so present and we also want to emphasize that desire for nature in the home with plants. And that is exactly what we prefer to do!

Growing plants with attention and love and passing on our passion for plants. The combination with glass and water gives your interior the appearance of this special natural image. You see the plant developing in the water, which gives a different image every time because the roots are visible in the glass. The beautiful roots in a glass with water is literally 'back to the roots'.

We wanted to show our passion and therefore started researching whether there was a demand for these types of concepts on our social media channels and in our Concept Store. We knew that, the reactions were overwhelming!
